ADINKRA COLLECTIVE

The Adinkra Collective is a coalition of Black queer individuals united by the common goals of sustainable activism, arts, unity and rest.

Our vision is to reclaim land and resources for Black communities, to be able to create. Art and rest are forms of resistance and revolution is based on land.

Our collective brings activists from diverse grassroots backgrounds together, including AYA Forest Garden, a forest garden project near Cape Coast, LGBT+ Rights Ghana a group for empowerment of queers in West Africa, and individual activists/artists from West Africa, Europe, and Brazil.

Our focus, both individually and collectively, revolves around community building, direct actions, afro-futurism, gender liberation, decolonial environmental justice, performance, visual arts, farming and networking.

We have organized two short residencies near Cape Coast, Ghana in March 2022 and March 2023 and a series of workshops in Berlin, Germany in the summer of 2022. Since 2024 we are strategizing and are currently in 2025 working on funding applications for building an artist residency space in Ghana, near Cape Coast and host the first residencies in 2027.
